Kelligraphy with Laura Hooper

Spending Sunday having coffee, donuts, seafood, strolling by the beach and attending Laura Hooper’s calligraphy workshop with good friends is anything but ordinary!

Laura Hooper Calligraphy Workshop
Any one who’s even slightly into calligraphy should definitely go to this when they organize it again. They share a lot of great tips on doing calligraphy and how it works as a business. The workshop run by Laura and her sister Alyssa, two lovely ladies who are also running the calligraphy business together, this sister duo sure make a great team. They were also constantly reminding us to pay attention to our posture while we were practicing.

It was a 3 hours workshop and my hand got really sore because I was so frantic that the ink was going to dry on the nib, I certainly missed out many times when Laura was showing us how to do the letter on the chalkboard – I was too nervous to look up, I kept tracing until I ran out of ink. Finally, I took a break and went shopping in the back, and yes, I went a little crazy, I had to, they were giving a 15% discount! I got an extra beginner and intermediate guide book, extra regular white paper pads, black paper pad and a box of gold ink kit. Now I must make this my new career to make that money back!

First time at Hermosa Beach, it’s so nice and clean – If you are thinking about going to a beach while visiting LA, you should check this one out, but please pick up your own filth so it doesn’t end up looking like Venice Beach. Just kidding, but not kidding, haha!

Spending 4th of July weekend with my hipster dad

We went to Animal for brunch at around 12pm during the hottest hour. So we hung out there and hid from the sun for a very good while. Really really enjoyed our coffee and food though! We even shared some pretty brilliant ideas.

We shared an appetizer: chicken liver toast. Nom nom nom…

My dad got the pastrami reuben benedict on rye toast with sauerkraut, hollandaise and island sauce, with a soft egg and I got the foie gras, biscuit with maple sausage gravy. As much as I love savory sweet, I think the gravy is a bit too sweet for me but the foie gras is cooked to perfection. After our relaxing brunch, we headed to Abbot Kinney. Yup not a good idea because it was still very hot and sunny, but I did pile on layers of sunblock! And we had a great time walking around leisurely. (I hid from one shade to another)

IDV is such a cute store. I would move in if I could! I mean… You can tell I’m obsessed. I didn’t even mind that it’s an outdoor store without AC.

And look at this awesome mural. LOVE!
